Best Of 2016

The lovely and very talented Cheryl @ Meadowmist Designs is hosting the Best Of 2016 linky party.

The rules are to link up a new post highlighting the best five posts from 2016.  It can be the posts that had the most views or comments, tutorials, or simply the ones which are your favourites.

I've been blogging less than a year so this is my first time and it would be easy to just pick the top five according to Blogger, but they are not necessarily my best posts, so, I had a little think and a lovely time revisiting my earlier posts and here are what I think are the best of the best.

I can't do them in reverse order as I can't make my mind up which I like best. so here they are in no particular order:

1.  2016 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop

This is the post with the most comments, 62 (on 27/12/2016), and my first ever Blog Hop.

My first blog post was in January 2016, I had no followers, and very few comments those first weeks and months, then the opportunity came along to joint the New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop hosted by Yvonne @Quilting Jetgirl, Cheryl @Meadowmist Designs, and Stephanie @Late Night Quilter.  It was wonderful, not just for my blog although it did wonders for that, but it helped me integrate in quilting blog land, get to know people, and make some wonderful friends.  If you are a new quilt blogger Yvonne is launching the 2017 blog hop in early February, so watch out for it, you won't regret it.

2. Bluebell Woods

My favourite quilt of the year and 55 comments (on 27/12/2016).

I had more fun making Bluebell Woods than any other quilt I have ever made.  Bluebell just seemed to evolve on her own, and I swear she had a hand in the writing.   Me?  Tease my readers in that way?   Would I?  If you enjoy reading about her make sure you also read the last post in the series,  The Final Chapter

3. My Latest Finish

The second most viewed post at 1381 views (on 27/12/2016).

My little thread catcher, and how I made it.  I use my thread catcher every time I sew, it's so handy next to my machine and for when I do hand stitching in front of the tv.  It scrunches up when I take it to classes too.

4. 2016 Cloud9 New Block Blog Hop

My one and only block design has had 1,030 views and 54 comments (at 27/12/2016).

I give you Barcodes.  This is the first time I designed a block, and I tell you, it was a lot harder than I thought.   It was good fun though, and I ended up with a lovely cushion from the rejects in this post

5. Origami Christmas Tree Tutorial

This is my most viewed post at 1496 views (on 27/12/2016).

This is my most viewed post although it was only published in November.  In the post I tell you exactly how I made it and how to easily make your own template if you haven't got an equilateral triangle.  There again you've probably had enough of making Christmas items for now.

Sorting through all my posts for this year has been great, there are so many fantastic memories bound up in them and it was so hard to choose, I could have added a few more posts that meant something to me and I'm still not sure of a couple I left out, but it's just as well it stopped at five.

Thank you Cheryl, not only for hosting this linky party, but for hosting the New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop, the wonderful Mystery Quilt, and for everything you do for the quilting world.

Thank you everyone for your support this year, especially in the difficult times I had, I can't express how much it meant to me.

I hope you will join me next year, I have one or two ideas buzzing around in my head and they are not all quilt related (giggles).

As this will be my last post of the year I will take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy and Peaceful New Year.

With smiles from
Kate x

  2. Kate, I have so enjoyed getting to know you this year. Your blog is a delight as I always feel that I can truly hear your 'voice' in your writing.
Barcodes is a wonderful block and I hope to use it some day. I think my favorite project of those shown here though is that shown in number one. Those fabrics are almost iridescent - they are soooo pretty! Happy New Year to you and your family.

  3. Kate, I am so grateful for your first pick, because it's how I got to know you. I promise I will be right here with you for 2017. Bluebell was one of my favorites. It's always fun to watch a quilt take on a life and personality of it's own. Hope you and your family have a wonderful New Year!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and leave a comment, it helps me grow as a quilter and as a blogger. It also makes me very happy :)
I try to respond to all comments by email, but if I don't reply within a few days it may be because you are a no reply blogger
